Overcome Dental Anxiety with Sedation Options

Do you get nervous when you visit the dentist or have trouble getting through a dental procedure?

At Gold Coast Dental Center, we want you to be as comfortable as possible during you visit. That is why we offer Sedation Dentistry. We offer both nitrous oxide gas, and oral conscious sedation to our patients.

Sedation is used for patients with dental anxiety and fear of dental procedures. It can also be used for treatments that take a longer period of time or might be more painful for patients.

Types of Sedation:

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): Nitrous oxide is a mild form of sedation administered through a mask placed over your nose. It induces a sense of relaxation and euphoria but allows you to remain conscious and responsive during the procedure. Its effects wear off quickly once the gas is discontinued.
  • Oral Sedation: Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed medication, usually a pill, before your dental appointment. This method can range from mild to moderate depending on the dose. You will typically feel drowsy but remain awake during the procedure.

What Is Dental Anxiety? How Can Sedation Dentistry Help?

Dental anxiety is a common issue that many people face, and there’s no reason to feel ashamed about it. This anxiety can stem from the dental clinic environment or specific triggers such as needles, drills, or even the sight of a dentist in a white coat.

Various factors contribute to the development of dental anxiety, including previous negative experiences with dental visits, extreme sensitivity, or a resistance to local anesthetics.

Fortunately, there are effective ways to manage this anxiety and ensure you receive the treatment you need. At Gold Coast Dental Center, we believe that even severe dental anxiety is manageable and should not prevent you from receiving essential care.

With sedation dentistry, we can help keep patients calm throughout their dental treatments, allowing necessary procedures to be completed quickly and efficiently, free from the anxiety and discomfort of past experiences.

Additionally, we use medications that not only provide comfort during the procedure but also create a partially amnesic effect, turning the entire experience into a fuzzy memory! This way, patients can leave the office feeling relieved and confident about their dental care.
